In the early hours of a Friday in May, the course of many lives was irrevocably altered by a tragedy that unfolded on Rayfield Drive in Birmingham, Alabama. On May 17, 2013, at approximately 2:45 a.m., 22-year-old Arthur Green III, a Black male, was found, his life tragically cut short. A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School's class of 2010, he had attended New Hope Baptist Church in West End.
His passing left a void in the hearts of his extensive family, which included his mother, Wanda Holt, his father, Arthur Green, Jr., as well as four sisters and six brothers. The pain of his loss was compounded by the fact that his mother had endured a similar heartbreak four years prior when her oldest son, Arthur's brother, was also murdered.
The grief of his family was palpable as they prepared to lay him to rest. His funeral service was held on Saturday, May 25th, at Galilee Baptist Church in Grasselli Heights, followed by his burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The community shared in the family's sorrow, offering prayers and support to the Holt and Green families during this profoundly difficult time.
In the months that followed, the Birmingham Police Department continued its investigation into Arthur Green's death. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case. Jimbroski Peterson, a 20-year-old male from Pleasant Grove, Alabama, was identified as the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and taken into the custody of the Jefferson County Jail. A warrant for Capital Murder with no bond was issued against him, marking a crucial step towards seeking justice for Arthur Green and his grieving family.
