On the morning of February 13, 2026, a 36-year-old Yemeni man, Khaled Saleh Mohamed Alshariki, was working as a clerk at the Broadway Mart in Baltimore, Maryland. A father of three young children, Alshariki was behind the counter when a man entered the store at approximately 9:27 a.m. Surveillance video from the store captured the harrowing moments that followed. The man, later identified as 52-year-old Brian Burrows, approached the counter, greeted by Alshariki.
Within seconds, Burrows brandished a handgun and shot Alshariki in the torso.
After firing the single, fatal shot, the assailant went behind the counter and took a small amount of money from the cash register. He then calmly exited the store, leaving Alshariki on the ground calling for help. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene on the 1000 block of North Broadway to find Alshariki critically wounded. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation suggested the motive for the deadly encounter was a robbery.
Baltimore police homicide detectives launched an investigation that led them to identify Brian Burrows as the primary suspect. Investigators utilized surveillance footage and a facial recognition database to link Burrows to the crime. On February 19, just six days after the shooting, warrant apprehension detectives located and arrested Burrows at a residence on Linden Heights Avenue. Burrows was subsequently charged with first-degree murder for the death of Alshariki.
Further investigation revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Burrows was also charged in connection with another commercial armed robbery that occurred on February 15, just two days after the fatal shooting, at a grocery store on North Bond Street. Authorities also linked him to a third armed robbery that took place a week prior to the homicide at a market on North Broadway. It was discovered that Burrows was a repeat offender with a history of violent crime. At the time of Alshariki's death, Burrows was on supervised probation for a 2018 armed robbery conviction and had an outstanding warrant for violating his parole that had been issued in September 2025. Following his arrest, Burrows appeared in court where a judge denied him bail, deeming him an "extreme danger to the community."
