In the early morning hours of January 27, 2026, a ShotSpotter alert prompted Goldsboro police to canvass a neighborhood on West Oak Street, but they found nothing amiss. Later that morning, at approximately 10:26 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment in the same area following a report of an unresponsive person. Inside, they discovered the body of 61-year-old Ronald Eugene Edwards.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and officially pronounced Mr. Edwards deceased.
Investigators from the Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit determined that he appeared to have sustained a single gunshot wound. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
As of now, the police have not released any information regarding a possible motive or any potential suspects in the shooting death of Ronald Eugene Edwards.
