In the early morning hours of January 27, 2026, a ShotSpotter alert prompted Goldsboro police to canvass a neighborhood on West Oak Street, but they found nothing amiss. Later that morning, at approximately 10:26 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment in the same area following a report of an unresponsive person. Inside, they discovered the body of 61-year-old Ronald Eugene Edwards.
