In the quiet community of Channelview, Texas, the life of 33-year-old Jorge Arturo Gonzalez Jr. was tragically cut short on January 28, 2026. A devoted father, son, and brother, Gonzalez was known for his love of Houston sports teams and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends. His sudden death left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, a profound loss for a man described as bringing laughter, loyalty, and heart to those around him.
The unfortunate discovery
of Gonzalez's death was made by Harris County Sheriff's deputies at the Deluxe Inn & Suites on East Freeway in Channelview. The deputies were at the motel to serve an unrelated parole warrant when they stumbled upon the homicide scene. Inside one of the rooms, they found Jorge Gonzalez Jr. in the bathroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe he may have been involved in an altercation with at least three people the night before his body was found.
In the days that followed, the investigation into Gonzalez's murder progressed swiftly. Harris County Sheriff's Office identified two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Joseph Plattenberg, 41, and Jordyn Wells, 27, were taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder. Authorities believe the motive for the alleged crime was a debt that Gonzalez owed to the suspects. Both Plattenberg and Wells were booked into the Harris County Jail. The man who was the subject of the original parole warrant was detained, but authorities stated there was no indication he was connected to Gonzalez's death.
