In the early morning hours of February 2, 2026, a dispute in Tampa, Florida, escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 34-year-old Corey Brown. The incident unfolded around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of North Nebraska Avenue and 129th Avenue, where law enforcement would soon be dispatched. When deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered Brown with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting swiftly pointed to a suspect, 44-year-old Maurice Blackmon. Detectives determined that a dispute between Blackmon and Brown had preceded the deadly encounter. By that evening, at 6:18 p.m., investigators had located and arrested Blackmon in connection with the fatal shooting. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office charged Blackmon with second-degree murder with a firearm.
