In the early morning hours of December 28, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn stillness of Chicago's River North neighborhood, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When the violence subsided, 34-year-old Lorenzo Bracey lay dead, the victim of a brazen and fatal shooting. Three other men, who were with Bracey at the time, were also struck by bullets and rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
The group was reportedly getting into a vehicle when the attack occurred.
According to preliminary police reports, four unidentified individuals approached Bracey and his companions on foot and opened fire without warning. After riddling their targets with bullets, the assailants fled the scene in a car, disappearing into the city's streets. The sudden and brutal nature of the attack left the community shaken and searching for answers. The area around LaSalle Drive and Hubbard Street was quickly cordoned off by law enforcement as investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the deadly confrontation.
In the days that followed, the Chicago Police Department appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the perpetrators. As of late December 2025, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects had been publicly identified. In an effort to generate leads, Cook County Crime Stoppers announced a $10,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for the death of Lorenzo Bracey and the wounding of the three other men. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for the victims and their families.
