A promising young life was tragically cut short when 16-year-old Lil'raylin Harrison, a male junior and football player at Dr. Phillips High School, was shot and killed in Orlando, Florida on the evening of December 28, 2025. The incident was one of a string of violent episodes involving teenagers that cast a dark shadow over the Christmas holiday week in Central Florida.
Around 9 p.m., deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at the
intersection of 26th Street and Rio Grande Boulevard. There they found Harrison with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds. Remembered as a dedicated athlete, Harrison was a member of both his high school football team and the Florida Bombers.
In the days following the shooting, Harrison's family, friends, and teammates gathered for a vigil to honor his memory, releasing balloons and sharing stories of a life taken too soon. His mother, Nivea Lamkin, expressed her profound grief and made a plea for an end to gun violence, stating she had done everything she could to keep her son safe and focused on his passion for football.
