Marcus Rosa, a 36-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, tragically lost his life on September 30, 2019. The incident occurred at the Wisper Palms Apartment Homes, where Marcus resided with his family. On the evening of his death, Marcus was involved in a heated argument with his 20-year-old stepson, Te'Quann Skeete. The altercation escalated when Skeete, who had been acting erratically since returning from a trip to the Virgin Islands, shot Marcus multiple times.
Despite efforts to restrain Skeete and secure the weapons, Marcus succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later that night.
Te'Quann Skeete was arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the incident. According to the arrest report, Skeete had been agitated throughout the day, leading to several confrontations with Marcus. The situation deteriorated when Skeete slapped Marcus during an argument, prompting Marcus to disarm him. However, Skeete later retrieved another handgun and fatally shot Marcus. Skeete's mother and brother, who were present during the shooting, reported that Skeete had been displaying unusual behavior and making verbal threats since his return from the Virgin Islands. They also noted that Marcus was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
The investigation revealed that Skeete had developed a deep-seated animosity towards Marcus, which was exacerbated by his erratic behavior. Skeete did not deny shooting Marcus but claimed that he acted in self-defense, alleging that Marcus had reached for a handgun during their argument. Despite this claim, Skeete was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of unresolved familial tensions and the impact of mental health issues on violent behavior.
