In the quiet morning hours of a Sunday in Boynton Beach, Florida, a life full of promise was tragically cut short. Josiah Jones, a 17-year-old Black or African American male, was fatally shot on December 28, 2025, while attempting to mediate a dispute. The incident unfolded around 9:15 a.m. at a home on Northwest 9th Avenue, forever altering the lives of those present.
The argument that led to the fatal shooting was between Josiah's sister and 24-year-old Trenton Robinson of Georgia, who
was the father of her child. As the disagreement escalated, Josiah stepped in, hoping to de-escalate the situation. It was in this moment of attempted peacemaking that Robinson allegedly produced a handgun and fired a single shot, striking Josiah in the abdomen.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Josiah was rushed to Delray Medical Center with a serious gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. The young man, remembered by his grandfather as a "bright light and a jokester," had spent his last Christmas filled with love and family, repeatedly telling his grandfather, "Granddad I love you."
In the aftermath of the shooting, Trenton Robinson was taken into custody. He reportedly claimed to officers that the shooting was an accident. Investigators found a handgun and a single shell casing at the scene. Robinson was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
