In the late afternoon of Sunday, December 28, 2025, the life of 39-year-old David Orr of Coos Bay was abruptly ended by an act of violence. The incident unfolded around 1:55 p.m. in the parking lot of a Staples store located on Newmark Avenue. Emergency services were summoned to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Orr suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical intervention, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial moments of the investigation were critical, with witnesses providing law enforcement with a detailed description of the suspect's vehicle, including the license plate number. This crucial information was quickly relayed to officers in the area. The swift communication and diligent police work led to the rapid location of the suspect's vehicle. A mere ten minutes after the shooting, at 2:05 p.m., an officer with the North Bend Police Department spotted the vehicle parked outside a residence near 33rd Street and Vine Street in Coos Bay.
Officers from the Coos Bay Police Department promptly arrived at the location and detained the two occupants of the vehicle. One of the individuals, 50-year-old Christopher Blodgett, was identified as the suspected shooter and taken into custody. Blodgett is now facing a series of serious charges, including second-degree murder, kidnapping, coercion, assault, harassment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. During his arraignment at the Coos County Courthouse, Blodgett was reportedly disruptive and vocally denied the charges against him. The Coos County Major Crime Team is continuing to investigate the homicide.
