On February 27, 2016, a homicide investigation was initiated by the Coos County Sheriff's Office following the discovery of the body of Byron Clark Sherritt, a 50-year-old resident of Coos Bay, Oregon. The body was found inside a van, and upon examination, officials determined that Sherritt's death was suspicious, leading them to treat the case as a homicide.
