In the early afternoon of January 2, 2026, the life of 46-year-old Tyron Walker was tragically cut short in a burst of violence outside a local grocery store in Mobile, Alabama. The incident, which marked the city's first homicide of the new year, unfolded at approximately 2:11 p.m. at the S&G Grocery located at 1729 Katye Street. Walker was fatally wounded by a gunshot in the moments just after a man exited the business.
Responding to reports of the shooting, Mobile Police officers
arrived at the scene to find Walker lying deceased outside the establishment. The preliminary investigation painted a grim picture of the events that had transpired. According to law enforcement, a male subject emerged from the grocery store and, for reasons that remain part of the ongoing investigation, opened fire on Walker. The assailant then fled the scene on foot, disappearing into the surrounding neighborhood and leaving a scene of shock and sorrow in his wake.
The efforts of the Mobile Police Department to track down the person responsible for the brazen daylight shooting were swift and decisive. Their investigation quickly led them to identify a suspect in the case. Law enforcement located and apprehended Antonio Finklea, a 43-year-old male, in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyron Walker. Following his arrest, Finklea was transported to the Metro Jail.
