In the quiet community of Bryan, Texas, a sense of shock and sorrow descended following the violent death of 52-year-old Nancy Winn, a White female, on January 17, 2026. What began as a response to a possible shooting in the Steep Hollow neighborhood soon unraveled into a heart-wrenching family tragedy that claimed two lives.
Just after 5:00 p.m. on that Saturday, the Brazos County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 9-1-1 call.
Upon arrival at a residence on Steep Hollow Circle, deputies discovered Nancy Winn and 61-year-old Gerald Winn suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene and subsequent transport to a local hospital, both victims succumbed to their injuries.
The suspect had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, prompting a swift and coordinated search. With the assistance of the Bryan Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, a person of interest was located and detained approximately six miles away at a restaurant near the intersection of Briarcrest Drive and Oak Ridge Drive.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of 32-year-old Ezekiel Barajas of Bryan. Authorities soon revealed the devastating connection: Barajas is the son of Nancy Winn. He has since been charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons.
