On the afternoon of December 2, 2025, a violent sequence of events unfolded in Lake Wales, Florida, resulting in the untimely death of 20-year-old male Jayvyn Levon McFadden. Police officers and detectives responded to the area near South Ninth Street and Columbia Avenue at approximately 1:13 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the victim on the north side of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures and transported him to Lake Wales AdventHealth. Despite these efforts, he was pronounced deceased at 2:05 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene provided investigators with crucial details about the moments leading up to the tragedy. It was reported that shortly before the shooting, the victim had been standing with others when he handed his young child to another person and began walking west on Columbia Avenue. Gunshots were heard soon after, and bystanders observed a blue Chevrolet Cruze traveling north away from the immediate area. The investigation indicated that the violence was the result of an ongoing dispute between two groups of individuals who were known to each other, with tensions having escalated over time.
While authorities were actively searching for the suspect vehicle, 19-year-old Miles Edward Brown of Frostproof voluntarily surrendered at the Lake Wales Police Department. During his interview with detectives, Brown admitted to the shooting but provided an account that investigators described as consistently untruthful. Although he claimed he was in the neighborhood trying to locate a friend's acquaintance, evidence and witness statements suggested he had been circling the block specifically looking for the victim. Brown was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
