Randell Jones Jr., a 31-year-old Black man, was caught in a burst of gunfire late on the night of December 6, 2025, on Milwaukee’s north side. At approximately 11:20 to 11:24 p.m., shots were fired in the 2100 block of North 41st Street near West Lloyd Street. Jones and another person, a 28-year-old, were struck. Both victims were transported to hospitals, with Jones suffering life-threatening injuries.
The other victim survived the shooting, while Jones’ condition deteriorated after he was taken to Froedtert Hospital.
Although the shooting occurred on December 6, official and funeral information indicates Jones died on December 7. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that he was pronounced brain dead at the hospital on Sunday evening. His funeral home also records his date of death as December 7, 2025. The circumstances that brought Jones and the second victim to the location, what happened immediately before the gunfire, and whether either victim was specifically targeted have not been publicly explained. Police initially described the case as a double shooting and began searching for an unknown suspect.
As investigators continued working the case, they developed information about a vehicle believed to have been used by whoever carried out the shooting. In January 2026, Milwaukee police renewed their appeal to the public and released information about the suspect vehicle. Detectives said an unknown suspect or suspects fired at the victims and then fled the area in a white GMC Acadia from approximately the 2013 through 2016 model years. The SUV was distinctive because it was missing its grille and had visible damage to the driver’s-side hood and front end. Surveillance images of the vehicle were released in hopes that someone would recognize it or provide information about who had been using it.
The police appeal more than a month after the killing showed that investigators were still trying to identify the person or people responsible. Authorities did not publicly name a suspect in the updates located for this case, and no arrest, criminal charge, trial, or conviction connected with Jones’ killing was reported in those sources. Police also had not publicly announced a motive or provided details explaining why the gunman or gunmen opened fire on the two victims. Instead, investigators continued focusing on identifying the damaged white GMC Acadia and anyone associated with it.
Jones had been born in Milwaukee on March 18, 1994, and was still residing in the city at the time of his death. His family held visitation and a celebration of life on December 18, 2025, followed by his interment at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.
