On the evening of December 10, 2025, police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, responded to reports of gunfire in the Hawthorne neighborhood. Around 9:30 p.m., ShotSpotter technology and multiple 911 calls directed law enforcement to the 2900 block of Emerson Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered a 20-year-old male named Ty’wann Robinson lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.
First responders provided immediate medical aid before transporting him to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that Robinson had been walking with his girlfriend just prior to the shooting. According to court documents, the couple had a history of domestic disputes, and the girlfriend had contacted her family earlier that night following an alleged altercation. Surveillance footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the violence, showing a white GMC Yukon SUV pulling up to where Robinson and his girlfriend were walking. A physical confrontation ensued between the driver of the vehicle and Robinson.
During the struggle, a passenger exited the SUV and approached the two men. This individual, later identified by authorities as 40-year-old Isaac Nathaniel Childress Jr., allegedly raised a firearm and shot Robinson. The footage showed the victim falling to the ground, after which the shooter advanced and fired at least one additional round. The driver then returned to the vehicle and fled the scene, while the gunman ran away on foot. Investigators used license plate reader data to trace the SUV to a relative of the suspect.
Law enforcement officers arrested Isaac Nathaniel Childress Jr. on December 16, following information that he intended to turn himself in. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and prosecutors subsequently charged him with second-degree murder with intent, though not premeditated. During questioning, Childress reportedly admitted to being at the scene and shooting Robinson, claiming he had blacked out during the incident and was attempting to protect his family. He remains in custody with bail set at $1 million.
