In the winter of 2014, a family's life was irrevocably altered by an act of violence that remains a somber mystery. On the evening of December 16th, Darren Rice, a 20-year-old African-American male from Buffalo, New York, was fatally shot on Jewett Avenue. The incident added to a year marked by a significant increase in homicides within the city, a wave of violence that disproportionately affected young men in the community.
