On the afternoon of Thursday, December 11, 2025, a violent tragedy unfolded in the quiet residential area of Far North Dallas, Texas. Police officers were dispatched to the 15800 block of El Estado Drive around 2:40 p.m. following urgent reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was identified as 27-year-old African American male Darvilease Deviel Washington, who was found critically injured but still alive.
Paramedics rushed Washington to a local hospital in hopes of saving his life, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second victim, 24-year-old Arlina Sander, had already passed away at the scene due to the severity of her wounds. Investigators immediately began securing the area and interviewing witnesses, which led them to quickly identify a person of interest and a suspect vehicle registered to an address in the neighboring city of Mesquite.
While Dallas detectives were in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant, they received a notification from the Mesquite Police Department regarding a related discovery. Law enforcement officers in Mesquite had located the suspect’s vehicle parked in a driveway on the 1000 block of Craig Drive. Inside the residence, they found the body of 44-year-old Jonathan Lakill Mantoy Jones. Authorities determined that Jones had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, effectively ending the manhunt before it could fully begin.
The case was classified as a double murder-suicide, leaving families and the community to grapple with the sudden loss of two young lives. Washington, who was formerly from Shelby, Mississippi, was later returned to his home state for funeral services. The Dallas Police Department continued to investigate the motives and circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter, though the death of the primary suspect brought a sudden, conclusive end to the search for justice in the criminal courts.
