On a Friday night in Jacksonville, Florida, the life of 16-year-old Amir Bostic was cut short by gunfire in the Sandalwood neighborhood on December 12, 2025. The shooting, which authorities believe transpired during a drug transaction, also left two other individuals wounded, another teenager and an adult male.
Having moved to the Sandalwood area with his mother only months prior, in August, Amir was a new student at Sandalwood High School.
His family remembers him as a sweet and kindhearted young man who enjoyed playing video games. The youngest of three siblings, he was described by his grandfather as more of a follower than a leader, a trait his family believes tragically led him into a dangerous situation. His sister recalled him as the glue that held their family together, a smart and caring individual with a lot of potential.
The events of that fatal night were partially captured on a neighbor's surveillance camera, which recorded the sound of multiple gunshots. The footage reportedly shows a person walking away before turning back to fire more shots. Amir was discovered lying in the road and was transported to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His family was devastatingly informed of his death through a phone call.
In the wake of the shooting, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office launched an investigation, which is currently ongoing. As of late December 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Amir Bostic. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identification of any suspects continues.
