In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 14, 2025, authorities in East Lansing, Michigan, were called to the Arbor Glen Apartments near the intersection of West Lake Lansing Road and Abbot Road following reports of a disturbance. Upon arriving at the scene around 1:30 a.m., law enforcement officers discovered the body of 37-year-old male Feng Lin, a resident of St. Johns.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds in what investigators quickly determined was a homicide. Police assured the public that the shooting did not appear to be a random act and that there was no ongoing threat to the wider community.
Investigators soon focused their attention on a suspect, identifying 23-year-old East Lansing resident Peiyun Qin as the individual allegedly responsible for the crime. Qin was taken into custody and charged with open murder, armed robbery, and multiple weapons offenses. Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney John Dewane confirmed the charges, indicating that the incident involved targeted violence rather than a chance encounter.
Following his arrest, Peiyun Qin was arraigned in court where he entered a plea of not guilty to all counts. Due to the serious nature of the charges, the judge ordered that he be held without bond. Qin remains in detention as the legal process moves forward, with further court hearings scheduled to take place later in the month to address the evidence surrounding the events that led to Lin's death.
