In the summer of 2014, the life of Troy Benjamin, a 40-year-old male, was brought to a tragic and violent end in his Harrison Township, Michigan, apartment. The events that unfolded on August 14th of that year culminated in a grim discovery that would be officially ruled a murder-suicide.
Deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Clinton Manor Apartments on Gordon Lane on a Thursday afternoon after receiving a distressing 911 call.
The call came from the daughter of 50-year-old Anne Marie Goodell, who had found the bodies of her mother and Troy Benjamin. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Neighbors later reported to investigators that they had heard what sounded like gunshots around 3 a.m. that same day, long before the tragic scene was discovered, but no calls were made to the police at that time.
The subsequent investigation by the Macomb County medical examiner's office brought clarity to the sequence of events. Authorities determined that Anne Marie Goodell had shot Troy Benjamin three times before taking her own life with the firearm. There were no indications of a forced entry into the residence where both individuals lived.
Troy Richard Benjamin, born on December 21, 1973, in Lansing, Michigan, was a veteran of the United States Army and the Michigan National Guard, having served his country for six years. He was a 1993 graduate of Charlotte Public Schools and had been a resident of the Detroit area since 2006. Described as a loving father to his four children, two sons and two daughters, Troy's greatest joy was said to be spending time with them. His interests included working with computers, playing the guitar and video games, and watching old westerns. His sudden passing left behind a large and grieving family.
