Jomarr Pye, a 43-year-old man, was fatally shot in Harrison Township, Michigan, in the early morning hours of June 16, 2021. The incident occurred outside the Prentiss Apartments following a domestic dispute.
Earlier that evening, Pye had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend. Upon returning to her parents' home where she was residing, she informed her father of the assault. This led to a verbal altercation between Pye and his girlfriend's 66-year-old father outside the apartment complex.
The confrontation escalated, and the father shot Pye once in the chest with a handgun.
When Macomb County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 12:55 a.m., they discovered Pye on the ground with his girlfriend's father attempting to save his life by performing chest compressions. Despite these efforts, Jomarr Pye was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 66-year-old father, who possessed a valid concealed pistol license, was initially taken into custody. He was cooperative with the investigation and was later released. After reviewing the case, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office declined to file charges against him, and the case was officially closed.
