On the afternoon of December 23, 2025, a violent tragedy unfolded in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, claiming the life of Basilisa Negron, a 47-year-old female. Authorities were summoned to an apartment building located at 115 West 141st Street, near Malcolm X Boulevard, following a frantic 911 call placed shortly after 1:00 p.m. Upon their arrival at the residence, officers discovered Negron unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
Despite the immediate response of emergency medical services, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Negron had been staying at the apartment, which belonged to her daughter, in the weeks leading up to her death. She had reportedly sought refuge there following a breakup with a long-term partner. On the day of the shooting, family members recounted that the assailant waited for the victim’s daughter to leave the premises on a brief errand before entering the apartment and opening fire. The victim was discovered on the floor by her daughter, who returned only minutes later to find the horrific scene.
While law enforcement officials did not immediately announce an arrest in the aftermath of the shooting, statements from Negron's grieving family provided specific allegations regarding a suspect. Her children identified the alleged perpetrator as her former partner of twenty-five years, Eliud Garcia, claiming he had subjected her to a history of domestic abuse and stalking prior to the fatal encounter. According to these personal accounts, Negron had recently severed ties with him, prompting a series of threats that culminated in the attack. As detectives continued their work to formally identify and apprehend the person responsible, the local community and family were left to mourn the sudden loss of a mother of seven.
