In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Knoxville, Tennessee, a journey turned deadly for 33-year-old Troy Hutchison of Atlanta. Hutchison, along with two other men, was traveling through the city on I-640 West when violence erupted inside their rented Ford Bronco. The vehicle pulled to the side of the interstate, and a fourth man who was with them opened fire, fatally wounding Hutchison and 25-year-old Rodrell Jeter of Detroit.
A third victim, a 22-year-old from Detroit, was also shot and left in critical condition.
The male shooter fled the scene, taking the Ford Bronco with him. Investigators with the Knoxville Police Department believe the group was traveling from Atlanta to Detroit. While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, family members of the victims have suggested that the men were trying to help someone when the situation took a tragic turn. Hutchison was known in the Atlanta music scene and was involved in music video production. He and Jeter, who were cousins, were remembered by family as good people who were loved by their friends and family.
The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, with Knoxville Police pursuing what they have described as strong leads. The suspect has not been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The Ford Bronco used by the suspect to flee was later discovered abandoned in Kentucky. Authorities have asked for the public's help, encouraging anyone with information to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers. The victims reportedly had no prior criminal history or known connections to the Knoxville area.
