In the late afternoon of Sunday, November 2, 2025, a dispute at a self-storage facility in Covina, California, turned deadly, claiming the life of 44-year-old Patricia Villa. A Hispanic female and a dedicated employee of One Stop Storage on North Barranca Avenue for over five years, Villa was known for her kindness and positivity. The tragic events unfolded when a tenant, identified as 66-year-old Juan Nava, confronted her.
Nava had repeatedly and baselessly claimed that his valuables were being stolen from the storage unit he was renting. On that Sunday, the disagreement escalated, and Nava fatally shot Villa multiple times. Her family, concerned after not hearing from her, went to the storage facility to check on her and made the devastating discovery. Although her death occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, she was not formally pronounced dead at the scene until the early hours of Monday morning.
The Covina Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide and quickly identified Juan Nava as the suspect. He was arrested on Monday at his residence, where authorities found multiple assault rifles and ammunition. Nava was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held on a $2 million bail. Patricia Villa, a resident of Alhambra, is survived by her partner, a 19-year-old son, and a 16-year-old daughter.
