On January 30, 2022, 28-year-old Jovani Luis Velez, a resident of Cumberland, Rhode Island, was fatally shot in Pawtucket. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Carnation Street and Broadway. Responding officers found Velez with a gunshot wound; he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
