In the quiet south Louisville neighborhood on Manslick Road, the evening of November 5, 2025, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Inside a residence in the 7800 block, 76-year-old Richard Kevin Jenkins, a White male, was fatally wounded. Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a shooting report at approximately 7:45 p.m. and found Jenkins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical aid provided by the officers and the subsequent efforts of EMS and the Fairdale Fire Department, Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the death of Richard Jenkins quickly transitioned from an initial inquiry to a homicide case, with the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit taking the lead. Within a day, the focus of the investigation narrowed, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

Justin Hayes, 50, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Jenkins' death. According to the arrest citation, the shooting was the result of a domestic violence incident. It was reported that after the shooting, Hayes contacted his relatives and alluded to his involvement in the incident. Hayes was arraigned in court, where a judge set his bond at $250,000.
