In the quiet of a late Friday evening in Albuquerque's South Valley, a shocking act of violence shattered the peace within a home on Entrada Bonita SW, leaving two men dead. On November 7, 2025, Yorces Chavez and Hector Rios were fatally shot inside the residence. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire around 10:27 PM and discovered the grim scene.
In the house at the time were three other adults and two young children who were unharmed.
When deputies arrived, they were met at the door by a man identified as 25-year-old Alexis Hernandez, who was armed with a firearm. Hernandez was taken into custody as the primary suspect in the double homicide. The investigation into the motive behind the killings took a bizarre turn when Hernandez claimed he had received an encrypted message from a cockroach instructing him to kill. He further stated to investigators that he believed one of the victims had been stalking him and had placed cameras in the light fixtures of the house.
According to Hernandez's account, he shot both Chavez and Rios after they led him to a back room. He alleged that he heard unsettling voices coming from the vents and felt his life was in danger, prompting him to act in what he described as self-defense. After the initial shooting, Hernandez reportedly went to his vehicle to retrieve more ammunition and then shot both men again. He acknowledged that the two children present in the home witnessed the violent event. Following the incident, Hernandez was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He has since been ordered by a judge to remain in custody as the case proceeds through the judicial system. The other adults who were in the home at the time of the shooting were detained for questioning as the investigation continues.
