Brandon Dumovich, 30, a white male, was found dead inside a parked vehicle late on October 6, 2025, in Harvard, Illinois. At approximately 11:52 p.m., a Harvard police officer stopped to check what appeared to be a disabled car with its hazard lights on in the northbound lane of Route 14 near Burbank Street. Inside were a 29-year-old female driver, identified as Brandon’s wife Rachel, and Brandon as the passenger; both were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered in the vehicle, and investigators quickly determined there was no ongoing threat to the community after issuing an initial shelter-in-place alert while the area was secured and the roadway was later reopened.
The McHenry County Major Investigative Assistance Team joined Harvard police in the inquiry, and the county coroner reported that autopsies showed both Brandon and Rachel died from gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities noted the couple lived in Sharon, Wisconsin, and were originally from the Crystal Lake area, with their car discovered stopped in the roadway in Harvard. As of mid-October, officials said the case remained under active investigation and that while a murder-suicide scenario was among the possibilities being evaluated, no final manner of death had been ruled.
Police have not announced any arrests, nor have they identified any outside suspects connected to the shootings. Investigators asked anyone with information to contact Harvard police or Crime Stoppers as they awaited final coroner findings and additional evidence processing.
