In the late hours of an autumn evening, the tranquility of a New Brunswick park was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Fernando Buezo Diaz. On October 8, 2025, at approximately 11:32 p.m., law enforcement officers responded to a report of an unconscious male in Pine Street Park. Upon their arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Buezo Diaz, a recent graduate of New Brunswick High School, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased
at the scene.
The initial investigation suggested that the shooting was not a random act, and authorities sought to reassure the public that there was no ongoing threat. Described by his mother as an 'exemplary student-athlete who was hardworking, kind, respectful, and full of dreams for the future,' Fernando's death sent shockwaves through the community. His loved ones remembered him as a joyful and caring young man who brought laughter to those around him. In the wake of his death, a fundraiser was established to assist his family with funeral expenses.
Detectives from the New Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office embarked on an intensive investigation to piece together the events that led to the teenager's demise. Their efforts determined that a fight had broken out in the park, culminating in the fatal shooting. The investigation led to the identification of two suspects.
On October 10, 2025, charges were filed against 20-year-old Jalen Terrell-Ingram of New Brunswick. He faced serious charges, including first-degree conspiracy to commit murder and weapons offenses. Terrell-Ingram surrendered to the New Brunswick Police Department on October 13. A few days later, on October 15, a 17-year-old male from North Brunswick was taken into custody. He was charged with acts of juvenile delinquency that, if committed by an adult, would constitute murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and weapons violations. While arrests have been made, the investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the community.
