In what has been described as a shocking act of violence, 63-year-old Paul Richard Courtney, a male resident of Parkland, Washington, was fatally shot in his home on the evening of October 10, 2025. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Courtney died from a shotgun wound to the chest and ruled his death a homicide. The incident, which unfolded in the 400 block of 142nd Street Court South, led to the swift arrest of his son, 41-year-old Michael Paul Courtney.
