On the evening of January 2, 2019, Kawon D. Chavis, a 36-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot at the Corning Arms Apartments located at 2935 South Salina Street in Syracuse, New York. Responding to reports of gunfire around 9:05 p.m., Syracuse police officers discovered Chavis in a hallway with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
