Summary based on 3 sources
Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes, 35, a male of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity, was shot late on the night of October 11, 2025, at a residence along the 28300 block of Old Highway 58 near Barstow. Deputies arrived around 11:55 p.m. after reports of gunfire and found him in the backyard with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division took over the case soon after the initial response.

Investigators determined that an Apple Valley man, Andrew Limon, 31, had come to the home of a former girlfriend and that the shooting erupted in the backyard. After the gunfire, Limon fled. During the ensuing investigation, deputies in Apple Valley located him in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound that authorities believe he sustained during the same incident. He was transported to a hospital and, upon medical clearance, was to be booked on a murder charge under Penal Code 187.

Authorities publicly identified the victim as Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes of Ontario. The sheriff’s investigators asked anyone with information to contact the Homicide Detail, while community reports and memorial listings quickly marked the date and place of his killing.
