Tyrese Johnson, 24, male, was shot and killed just after midnight on October 15, 2025, in the 2400 block of South 21st Street in Waco. Officers responding to the scene found him suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead there. Police publicly identified him the following day.
Investigators arrested 24-year-old Joshua Aaron Chappell in connection with the shooting and booked him on a manslaughter charge.
According to police, the case remains under investigation, but they believe the incident was isolated and said there was no ongoing threat to the public. Reports the day after the killing indicated Chappell remained jailed on the manslaughter count.
Authorities said they were called to the area around 12:20–12:30 a.m., where they found Johnson mortally wounded inside a South 21st Street apartment complex.
