John Martinez, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. Born in the Dominican Republic, Martinez, also known in the drill rap scene as Suave Drilly, was leaving a parole office near the corner of Alexander Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard when the attack occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m.
Three assailants wearing ski masks reportedly approached him and opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest.
Parole officers who were nearby rushed to his aid as a crowd began to form, and one officer administered chest compressions. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and continued life-saving efforts before transporting Martinez to Lincoln Hospital. Despite their attempts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The gunmen were seen fleeing the location, heading eastbound on East 132nd Street. As of now, the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no arrests have been made by the New York Police Department.
Martinez had a history with the criminal justice system and was on parole at the time of his death. He had been convicted on a charge of first-degree attempted gang assault. In 2022, he was one of 20 individuals indicted by the Bronx District Attorney's office for alleged involvement in a series of shootings. The indictment accused the group of being members of the G-Side/Drilly gang, a subset of the Bloods Sex Money Murder gang, and included 82 counts for crimes such as conspiracy, murder, and attempted murder that took place between September 2018 and March 2022. After being imprisoned in 2023, Martinez was released on parole in January 2024.
