Jarod Douglas Turner, 28, a Black male from San Antonio, was gunned down in a drive-by attack on the afternoon of May 27, 2025, moments after finishing a meal with his girlfriend and their young child. As the family walked to their vehicle outside the 54th Street Scratch Grill & Bar in the Alamo Ranch area, gunfire erupted from a passing SUV, striking Turner multiple times as he tried to get into the car. First responders rushed him to University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified Turner and ruled his death a homicide, citing a fatal gunshot wound to the torso.
Detectives marked numerous shell casings—reportedly from more than one caliber—scattered across the parking lot, a grim indication that multiple weapons were used. Investigators believe the ambush was targeted and planned, not random, and they began canvassing nearby businesses for surveillance video that might show the shooters circling the lot before the volley of shots. Witness statements pointed to a silver Ford Explorer–type SUV speeding away from the scene after the barrage. Despite the chaos, Turner’s girlfriend and the child were not physically harmed.
In the days that followed, authorities publicly identified Turner and clarified the timeline: the attack unfolded shortly after 3 p.m. at 5722 West Loop 1604 North, just south of Culebra Road, in a busy shopping center. Coverage from local outlets emphasized the brazenness of the shooting in broad daylight and the heartbreak of a family outing shattered by sudden violence. Memorial posts online recorded his name and age alongside the date and city where he was killed.
As of the latest reports from that period, San Antonio police had not announced any arrests. Detectives continued to seek tips and video evidence while the suspects remained at large, described only as at least two people inside the fleeing SUV. No motive had been publicly disclosed.
