Bryan Cuevas, 21, male, Hispanic/Latino, died after being shot during a late-afternoon encounter at the Paddock on Park Row Apartments in Arlington on May 29, 2025. Police were called at about 5:11 p.m. to the 400 block of West Park Row Drive and found Bryan and his 17-year-old brother, Jason, outside one of the buildings with gunshot wounds; both were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Investigators said the brothers had gone to the complex to meet a man for what they described as a high-risk transaction that went bad, and multiple firearms were recovered at the scene.
Within about 20 minutes of the shooting, a 911 call came in reporting that a man had been shot in the leg in the 2500 block of Sherry Street—roughly 3.7 miles from the apartment complex. Officers found 19-year-old Xavier Weddington there; he initially told police he'd been hit by gunfire from an unknown person while walking to a relative's home, but investigators flagged inconsistencies in his account. A witness from the apartment complex later identified Weddington as the shooter in a photo lineup and told detectives a friend had picked him up from the scene and driven him to Sherry Street, which matched the timeline police were building.
Arlington homicide detectives obtained a warrant for Weddington's arrest on one count of capital murder, and members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force took him into custody in Grand Prairie on May 30, 2025. He was booked into the Arlington City Jail and transferred to the Tarrant County Jail. Authorities have said the investigation remains active, but as of early June 2025 they publicly tied the case to the ill-fated meeting at the apartment complex and the eyewitness identification of Weddington as the gunman.
