Damian Arce, a 31-year-old male, was shot in the parking lot of the Chit Chat Bar & Lounge on the 4800 block of Dyer Street in El Paso shortly after 1 a.m. on June 1, 2025. Officers on a bar check heard a gunshot, found Arce wounded outside, and rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died. Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit determined he had been in an altercation with another man before the shooting, and the assailant fled the scene.
Authorities publicly identified Arce in the days after the incident and confirmed the location and timeline of the shooting. An obituary later noted his passing on June 1, 2025, in El Paso.
Nearly four months later, El Paso police announced an arrest in the case. Terrence Mathews, 38, was taken into custody in Alabama on a murder warrant obtained by El Paso detectives, extradited to Texas, and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on September 22, 2025. He is charged with murder and held on a $1,000,000 bond under Judge Acosta. Local outlets reported the arrest and reiterated investigators’ belief that the shooting stemmed from a confrontation outside the bar.
