In the quiet community of Socorro, a suburb of El Paso, Texas, the life of 35-year-old Eduardo Isaias Contreras was tragically cut short on the afternoon of January 25, 2026. Authorities were called to a residence on the 10500 block of Monte Alto, where they discovered Contreras deceased inside the home. The nature of his death immediately prompted a homicide investigation, drawing in the resources of the Socorro Police Department, the Major Crimes Unit, Texas Rangers, and the El Paso Police
Department SWAT Team.
The investigation quickly led authorities to a person of interest. A significant police presence, including a Crisis Management Team, converged on a home located on the 3100 block of North Piedras in central El Paso. This resulted in a tense standoff with the suspect, who was identified as 30-year-old Gabriel Ontiveros. After a period of negotiation, Ontiveros surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody without further incident.
Following his arrest, Gabriel Ontiveros was charged with the murder of Eduardo Contreras. He was subsequently booked into the El Paso County detention facility. While the motive for the killing was not immediately released, the swift arrest brought a sense of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation. The case is now set to proceed through the criminal justice system. Eduardo Contreras is survived by his mother, two sons, a brother, and three sisters.
