Damarian Grear, 18, a Black male from Amarillo, was found fatally shot in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025. Around 4:18 a.m., after numerous 911 calls about gunfire near Northwest 2nd Avenue and North Adams Street, officers located Grear inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene and the Amarillo Police Department’s homicide unit began investigating.
Police reported that an altercation among several people began inside the nearby after-hours venue known as New York Bodega & Grill and spilled into the surrounding streets, where shots were fired. Reporters at the scene noted dozens of evidence markers scattered close to homes in the neighborhood, underscoring how the violence erupted just steps from residential porches.
In the days that followed, authorities appealed to the community for help.
