On the evening of May 17, 2025, 32-year-old Dreshaun Lamarr Pruden, a Black male from Newport News, Virginia, was fatally shot inside a Family Fare convenience store located at a BP gas station on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. Police responded to a call around 9:20 p.m. and discovered Pruden on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
