On May 19, 2017, 86-year-old Josephina Ortega was found murdered in her Albuquerque home. Her nephew, Craig Smith, was later convicted of her murder. He entered her home to steal $80,000, bound her hands and feet with zip ties, and suffocated her by placing multiple plastic bags over her head, securing them with duct tape.
