On the night of July 23, 2025, 27-year-old Spirit Pryer, a woman from the Peninsula, was found shot outside along the 600 block of Aqua Vista Drive in Newport News, near King-Lincoln Park. Officers were dispatched at about 9:26 p.m. after a ShotSpotter alert signaled gunfire; when they arrived, they discovered 27-year-old Spirit Pryer suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
