On the evening of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the life of 27-year-old Spirit Pryer, a female resident of Hampton, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Newport News, Virginia. At approximately 9:26 p.m., the Newport News Police Department was alerted to the sound of gunshots in the 600 block of Aqua Vista Drive by a shot detection system. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Pryer outside, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
