Darion Cameron Clevenger, a 27-year-old White male, died on September 23, 2025, in Bunker Hill, West Virginia, in a shooting that left three people dead inside a pickup truck. Although the incident occurred in Bunker Hill, law-enforcement-based reporting identified Clevenger as a resident of Winchester, Virginia. At approximately 12:06 p.m., deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Criminal Investigative Division were sent to the Quarry Road area after someone
reported suspicious circumstances. When deputies arrived, they discovered Clevenger, Dalton Weaver and Evie Joe Omps dead inside a red Chevrolet Silverado.
The investigation quickly shifted from the discovery of the bodies to trying to reconstruct what had happened inside the truck. Authorities said preliminary evidence indicated that an altercation had taken place among the vehicle’s occupants and that all three sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. Investigators also determined that one of the three appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office did not publicly identify which person was believed to have inflicted that wound, leaving an important part of the sequence of events unresolved in the information released to the public. Subsequent reporting said autopsies were pending with the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office, but no later publicly available report located in connection with the case disclosed the final autopsy findings or established publicly which person fired which shots.
From the beginning, investigators indicated that they did not believe an unknown attacker had escaped from the scene. The sheriff’s office said there were no outstanding suspects and no continuing threat to the community. That assessment, combined with the finding that one of the wounds appeared self-inflicted and the belief that a confrontation occurred inside the Silverado, pointed the investigation toward the three occupants themselves rather than toward a fourth person being sought by police. Authorities nevertheless kept the case under investigation and asked anyone with information to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and request Deputy Jenkins.
No arrest was announced in connection with Clevenger’s death, and the available public reporting does not identify a named surviving suspect. Likewise, no criminal charges, prosecution, trial or conviction connected to the three deaths surfaced in the online reporting located through August 15, 2026. The sheriff’s office’s last widely reported position was that no suspect was at large, while withholding which deceased occupant was believed to have suffered the self-inflicted wound. As a result, the publicly known record stops short of assigning criminal responsibility to Clevenger, Weaver or Omps, and it would go beyond the released evidence to identify any one of them as the person responsible for the other deaths.
Clevenger’s obituary offered a picture of his life away from the violent circumstances of his death. He was the son of Darwyn and Mary Clevenger, attended James Wood High School and worked as a technician’s assistant for Gills Heating and Air Conditioning. He was remembered as easygoing, friendly and particularly interested in old and classic automobiles, including 1963 Chevrolets and Chevy Blazers. His surviving family included his parents, his brother Richard Frank Clevenger and numerous extended relatives and friends. Evie Joe Omps, who died alongside him in the Silverado, was also identified by the family’s funeral notices as Clevenger’s brother, making the shooting a double loss within the same family. A memorial gathering for Clevenger was held at Omps Funeral Home’s Amherst Chapel in Winchester on October 10, 2025, as relatives and friends mourned a death that remained surrounded by unanswered questions about exactly how the confrontation inside the truck unfolded.
