In the early morning hours of Friday, May 6, 2022, a dispute at a nightclub in Bunker Hill, West Virginia, tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Diata Johnson of Winchester, Virginia. The young man was in the parking lot of the Touch of Texas nightclub when gunfire erupted around 2:30 a.m.
Responding deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office discovered Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify a suspect. An 18-year-old, Dyreek Harris, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was subsequently charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm.
While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation into the shooting that led to Diata Johnson's death remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident has been encouraged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.
