In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025, the city of Hopewell, Virginia, was rocked by a violent act that claimed the life of a local man. Derrick Lamont Comer, a 58-year-old male, was discovered in the 800 block of Chestnut Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Hopewell Police Department received a report of the shooting at 5:56 a.m. and dispatched officers to the scene.
