On a warm Labor Day, the life of 27-year-old Jaime Garcia-Garnica, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a shooting in Yakima, Washington. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Cornell Avenue on September 1, 2025. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Garcia-Garnica with a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene before he could be transported to a hospital.
A second individual, a 32-year-old man, was
also a victim in the shooting and was located at Multicare Yakima Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries. As of now, the Yakima Police Department has not made any arrests in connection with the homicide, and the investigation remains ongoing. While authorities have not officially commented on whether the shooting was gang-related, the neighborhood has a history of such violence. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and have stated their belief that there are people in the community who have knowledge of the crime.
