In the quiet town of Byrdstown, Tennessee, a welfare check on a Sunday evening turned into a homicide investigation. On July 13, 2025, deputies from the Pickett County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence on Eagle Crest Drive. As they approached the home, the sound of a single gunshot cut through the night. Inside, they discovered 72-year-old Theresa Foutch, a White female, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the quick response, she succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the case at the request of the 13th Judicial District Attorney General. The investigation quickly focused on a suspect from within the household. Investigators determined that Theresa's husband, Johnny Foutch, was responsible for the shooting.
That same Sunday night, authorities arrested Johnny Foutch. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder and booked into the Pickett County Jail, where he was held without bond. While authorities have made an arrest, they have not publicly released any information regarding a possible motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and the charge against Foutch is an accusation, with the defendant presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
