In a case that stunned the small community of Tiptonville, Tennessee, 21-year-old James Matthew Wilson was found deceased on July 29, 2025, the victim of a quadruple homicide. Wilson, a male resident of Dyer County, was discovered alongside his girlfriend, 20-year-old Adrianna Williams, her mother, 38-year-old Cortney Rose, and her 15-year-old brother, Braydon Williams.
The tragic discovery was made in a wooded area in Lake County after a relative found two of the victims' vehicles in the remote location. All four victims had suffered from gunshot wounds, and their bodies were found concealed under camouflage tarps.
The investigation into their deaths was set in motion by an alarming and separate event earlier that day. Wilson and Adrianna Williams' infant daughter was found abandoned but unharmed in her car seat in the front yard of a home in Dyer County, more than 30 miles away from where the bodies were later found. When law enforcement began searching for the baby's parents, the grim details of the larger tragedy began to unfold, leading them to the scene in Tiptonville. The discovery of the four deceased family members launched an intense, multi-day manhunt for the man believed to be responsible.
Authorities quickly identified 28-year-old Austin Robert Drummond as the primary suspect. A search for Drummond ensued, putting the West Tennessee community on high alert as he was considered armed and dangerous. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation added him to their Most Wanted list. The search came to an end on August 5, 2025, when a worker in Jackson, Tennessee, spotted Drummond in a wooded area and alerted the police, leading to his arrest. It was later revealed that Drummond had been staying in a vacant building near the woods.
Following his capture, Austin Robert Drummond was charged with four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and weapons offenses. He has pleaded not guilty. During court proceedings, it was revealed that cellphone data placed Drummond in the vicinity of where the bodies were discovered. Prosecutors have announced their intention to seek the death penalty in the case, which is now set to move forward to a grand jury. Authorities have also charged several other individuals with being accessories after the fact, alleging they assisted Drummond after the killings.
