Corey Divers, 35, a Black male from Columbus, was shot during a late-night altercation inside Players Family Billiards on East Main Street in Whitehall on June 6, 2025. Officers responding just before midnight found him wounded; he was taken to Mount Carmel East, where he died soon after. A funeral notice later recorded his passing the following day, June 7, 2025, reflecting the overnight timeline.
Investigators said a fight broke out in the pool hall and, during the struggle, 36-year-old David Tobias Walker III pulled a gun and shot Divers before fleeing. Whitehall police announced a murder charge against Walker shortly after the shooting as they asked the public for tips while he remained at large.
Two months later, a U.S. Marshals–led fugitive task force located and arrested Walker in west Columbus near the Henderson Heights area. Authorities said he was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Franklin County Jail on the murder charge in Divers’s death.
Community tributes marked Divers’s name and date on memorial sites, underscoring the loss felt by family and friends while the case moved into the courts. Public updates did not describe a motive beyond the fight inside the billiards hall, and no additional suspects were identified.
